The FIFA Women’s World Cup started on 20 July 2023 and is the first time they have the men’s format of 32 teams. To date, the Women’s World Cup only has a 24 team format, but it has expanded it this year. Another first is that two nations, Australia and New Zealand, co-host the games.

The tournament will be held on from 20 July to 10 August 2023. Multiple confederations are involved in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, as New Zealand belongs to the Oceanic Confederation while Australia falls under the Asian Confederation.

In the opening match on 20 July, Norway and New Zealand contested against each other in Auckland at Eden Park. The inaugural game in Australia happened between the Republic of Iceland and Australia on the same day at the Stadium of Australia.

United States has been the defending champions for the past two tournaments leading the probability of winning the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. The tournament’s final match will be hosted at the Sydney Olympic Stadium on 20 August 2023 in Sydney.

The boards at FIFA have announced that the total prize pool is $110 million, almost $80 million more than the prize pool of the 2023 tournament. The prize money will be paid directly to the associations and players.

It is a welcome change because there were reports in the women’s game that many associations needed to pay or withhold the prize money from the players.

It was a letter sent by FIFPRO to FIFA and was signed by all players worldwide, challenging to make the prize money of the FIFA Women’s World Cup equal to that of the FIFA Men’s World Cup. Based on the teams and the group states, the United States has a higher chance of winning its consecutive third title at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Germany and England might follow close.
